Robotics & Automation
Using state-of-the-art technology, affordable robotic solutions are now more available than ever before. Recent advancements allow for the creation of robot-ready automation cells, which can be specifically designed for a client’s needs. Increase productivity by having robots handle many common and repetitive tasks.
- Grinding
- Cleaning
- Deburring
- Material handling
Think robots are too expensive? Think again. Traditional CNC machines can be up to 3x more expensive, and not offer anywhere close to the same level of productivity-boosting automation.
Automated Deburring
When a piece of metal is machined, a sharp burr is often left behind along the edges of the tool path. These burrs must be removed in a process that has long been time-consuming and inefficient. Hand deburring is possible, especially with softer metals like aluminum. But the results can be inconsistent, and a slip of the blade can easily ruin the part. Using nylon bristle brushes, or plastic brush bristles with an embedded abrasive is another way to deburr when attached to rotary tools or used with CNC machines. However, excessive heat built up from use can cause the brushes to melt or lose their shape.
Now, the latest line of deburring brushes are stone brushes. Stone brushes are made from ceramic fiber and are specially designed to remove burrs and add finishing to a surface. Stone brushes do not melt or deform due to heat or pressure, which means they can be operated at higher speeds and feeds than typical nylon brushes. They can be run wet or dry, come in a variety of sizes and abrasive grits, and can be used in rotary tools, CNC machines, or via specialized robots.

CO2 Precision Cleaning and Blasting
CO2 is an excellent way to clean and prepare surfaces by removing oil residue, thin films, dust, debris, and more. With robot-ready CO2 cleaning systems companies can reduce operating costs by replacing ultrasonic cleaners, alcohol wipes, and water washes with recycled CO2.
Dry ice blasting is also a popular method of cleaning parts. The dry ice, when blasted onto the part, can supercool a surface. This causes the contaminants to become hard, and easier to break off of the surface. The dry ice pellets not only cool the part, but knock away the frozen contamination. This process has long been considered to be one that can only be done manually. But the work itself is often boring, repetitive, dirty, and can even be dangerous. This is a perfect opportunity for robot automation. With proper planning, a robotic dry ice blasting solution is more efficient and cost-effective than manual dry ice blasting.
Custom Robotics Solutions Or A Pre-Engineered System?
Robots offer an affordable alternative for surface preparation tasks that have long been considered to be the domain of manual labor. Once you’re ready to boost your productivity by having robots handle these repetitive tasks, the next biggest question is whether you need a custom solution or a pre-engineered system.
There are several benefits to choosing a system that is already designed and has been proven to work. These pre-built systems are often far cheaper, can be delivered quickly, and even shipped pre-assembled. However, complex problems often require complex solutions. Custom automation systems could be the answer! Let us speak with you about your needs, determine whether a robotics automation system is truly the answer, and begin the planning process.
